Elan Shoulders, MPH
Manager, Community Outreach and Engagement
Elan Shoulders is the Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement at John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack Meridian Health. In her role, Elan works to decrease barriers and increase accessibility to cancer prevention, screening, early detection, and any other community needs in the Bergen County catchment area.
Elan earned her Bachelor’s in Science in Biobehavioral Health from the Pennsylvania State University where she discovered her passion for preventative health and health education. She continued her education at the University of Michigan School of Public Health where she obtained a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Behavior and Health Education.
Elan has worked in health education, clinical research, and administrative management. Bridging the gaps between minority groups and their health care needs continues to keep Elan passionate about Public Health.
Arminda Jaochico, BSN, RN-C
Cancer Patient Navigator, Community Outreach and Engagement
Arminda “Armi” Jaochico is the Nurse Navigator for the Department of Community Outreach and Engagement at HUMC John Theurer Cancer Center. In her role, Armi has the potential to assist linking community residents with JTCC in multiple capacities and all cancers. Furthermore, Armi helps patients, families and caregivers overcome healthcare barriers and facilitate timely access to quality medical and psychosocial care, from pre-diagnosis through all phases of the cancer experience.
Armi obtained her Bachelor’s in Nursing from Chamberlain University. She has held a Clinical Level III and certification in Maternal-Newborn Nursing (RNC-MNN) since 2012. Armi’s goal is to become certified in her role as a nurse navigator by the end of 2023.
Armi has an extensive work history which includes agency and OR nursing, Bed Control and Capacity, and has worked concurrently at the Occupational Health and HARP (outreach) departments at HUMC since 2012 while being a full-time Mother-Baby nurse. Armi also assisted with staffing schedule, payroll and other daily operation necessities in her role as a charge nurse. Armi has served and sat on multiple hospital- and network-wide committees since the beginning of her employment with HUMC in 2004. Armi was a MAGNET escort in 2014 and takes pride as the sole Subject Matter Expert (SME) and SuperUser from her department for EPIC launch and Go-Live.
Armi hopes to make an impactful change in the lives of the residents comprising the JTCC catchment area in partnership with the Outreach, Research and JTCC clinical teams.
