Assistant professor, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine

Dr. Steven Ghanny is a Pediatric Endocrinologist at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center and an Assistant professor at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. Dr. Ghanny obtained his Bachelor of Science from Stevens Institute of Technology. Dr. Ghanny then obtained his Master of Science in biomedical sciences from UMDNJ-Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Ghanny then received his MD from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He then went on to complete his pediatric residency at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. He then completed a three-year fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. While in fellowship, Dr. Ghanny established a research facility for the division of pediatric endocrinology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. His research in fellowship focused on steroid sensitivity and diabetes. After coming to the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, Dr. Ghanny has continued his work on steroid sensitivity and has applied it to the field of endocrinology, neonatology, oncology and pulmonology. He has also worked on several studies focusing on diabetes.

Research in Ghanny Lab

Dr. Ghanny’s research has focused on measuring glucocorticoid sensitivity in multiple patient populations using a fluorescein labeled dexamethasone(F-Dex) monocyte binding assay that he developed. This assay has been validated to measure glucocorticoid sensitivity in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome, premature adrenarche; patients with nephrotic syndrome treated with steroid therapy; patients with Graft versus Host Disease (GVHD); neonates, patients with asthma treated with inhaled corticosteroids and patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia treated with steroid therapy. The work in this field will aid medical providers in the management of these patient groups.
